Aphorisms โ€” effective 18 October 2026

Aphorisms shows one thought a day from authors you choose. It has no accounts, no advertising and no analytics. This page explains, plainly, what stays on your device and what leaves it.

What stays on your device

Your themes and followed authors, your ratings, streak and laurels, saved thoughts, history, your own passages, and downloaded quotes are stored only in your browser / app storage on this device. They are never uploaded. Uninstalling the app, clearing its data, or using Delete my data removes them (see Deleting your data).

What leaves your device

WhatSent toWhy
Your ๐Ÿ™ / ๐Ÿ˜ / ๐Ÿ™‚ rating of a quote, the quote's identifier (a short hash) and its author, plus a random anonymous device id generated by the appOur database at Supabase (EU/US cloud hosting)To combine everyone's ratings so better thoughts are chosen for all readers. No name, e-mail, IP-based profile or the text of your own passages is stored with it. Withdrawing a rating deletes it.
The text of a quote, only if you turn on TranslationYour device's built-in translator when available; otherwise MyMemory (translated.net) or Google TranslateTo translate it. Only the quote text is sent.
Requests for quotes and author portraitsWikiquote and Wikipedia (Wikimedia Foundation)To download the quotes and pictures.
Font requestsGoogle FontsTo display the typeface.
Only if you turn on the Daily reminder: your device's push subscription address, the reminder hour and time zone, your chosen themes, followed authors and translation language, with the same anonymous device idOur database at Supabase; the notification itself is delivered by your browser's push service (e.g. Google Firebase Cloud Messaging)To send you one thought a day, at your hour and on your themes. Turning the reminder off deletes this record.

These services receive your device's IP address as part of any internet request, under their own privacy policies. We do not sell or share data with anyone else.

Text you share into the app

Passages you send to Aphorisms from other apps (for example a Kindle highlight) and Kindle clippings you import stay on your device. They are never sent to our database.

Children

Aphorisms is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal information from anyone.

Deleting your data from Aphorisms

Aphorisms (developer: carlot78) has no accounts. Everything is tied to an anonymous id that the app creates on your device, so you can delete it all yourself, at any time:

  1. Open Aphorisms and tap the menu (โ˜ฐ, top right).
  2. Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete my data, then confirm.

This immediately and permanently deletes:

Nothing is kept afterwards: there are no backups of individual records, and no data is retained for any additional period. Totals that were computed from your ratings before deletion are recalculated without them.

Other ways: withdrawing a single rating (tap the same face again) deletes it from the server; turning the daily reminder off deletes the subscription; uninstalling the app deletes the data on the device. If you can no longer open the app (for example, you already uninstalled it) and want the server copies removed, open an issue at github.com/carlot78/aphorisms/issues with your anonymous device id if you have it โ€” we delete the data within 30 days. Reminder subscriptions that stop working are also deleted automatically.
